i know the last five years for most of my friends haven't been really rosy. most of us have stepped out of our comfort zones into the society. we started on our career paths, some embarking on furthering their studies overseas because they couldn't get a suitable course here in Singapore. what is the cause of this?
I'm not going to blame this entirely on the influx of foreigners here, but i think, the influx could share part of the responsibility. ask the blue collar workers, walk around and take a look for yourself; the universities here in singapore, the service line etc are places where you don't see much singaporeans anymore. where have our people gone to?
i don't know if its sad to hear or not, but most of them are located overseas. i see my relatives moving out of singapore for more than 20 years now; some of them i have never seen unless i go out of my country. i'm sure my relatives are not the only ones out of singapore. they've simply gone apathetic of the situation back here, and started their lives in their new home.
we see a strong dominance in the parliament. the voice that would be fighting for us has become softer. i remember the last President Ong Teng Cheong. he spoke for the people, he did his best to question about the reserves. sadly, he passed on and i'm not sure if his funeral not being a state funeral has anything to do with this.
there has been instability in this country. and if you still care for your country, i urge you to think about the country's interest as a whole, instead of your own. i know many friends around me are capable of leading a comfortable lives with their current job and income, but think about whether the government has done enough, to speak for our people.
we're in 2011 now. singapore has grown so much since 1959. personally, i'm grateful for what has been done in the last 52 years. however, like what i've learnt, change is the only constant. people change as the environment change. i'm sure the incumbent party has what it takes to bring the country to greater heights, but i think a few voices to speak up for the people certainly won't hurt the country. a constant wake up call might render help at times of difficulty.
people, change is near. vote for the change you have been crying out for in the past few years. MAJULAH SINGAPURA!
just here to say.. happy easter weekend!
i'm simply too sick and lazy to blog. procrastination at its best.
this year, CNY is just plain boring, or rather the whole tradition thing is getting boring. everyone just wants to gamble. but thats one way to keep people talking so i can't really object to it.
i hope everyone enjoys the rest of the festival. one more day for me. more red packets on the way. not really interested in the amounts anymore.
midweek Annual Competency Assessment. got the results today. i failed! retest on 19th. totally not looking forward and that's not even making my year look like its going to be great.
anyways, seven day roadshow next week at jurong point! catch me on wednesday and sunday! enjoy the weekend!
Labels: 2011, resolutions
as promised, the new year resolutions! i have tons, but i guess its good to put down less, so i can focus on them?
1) Stay Postive all year long!
i know i have been emo all year long. over work, over family, over relationships. i'm trying to curb all that feelings, try to hide them in a little corner of my mind so i don't show it on my face? easier said than done, i'll work on it, even harder (after two years of trying, still not very successful).
2) Better Time Management!
if you know me, you know, i'm always late! besides work, i'm always behind time. i blame, i blame, i blame! no more excuses! oh my, i think to do that, i need a diary! currently using this super lame diary from sometime in 2000! its a diary without the dates, so i have to fill all of them in! looks really old lah. i guess i gotta start investing in my moleskine!
3) Pick up a new sport.
i don't know man. this seems like a good thing to do. golf (expensive sport), diving (hazardous activity), surfing (worse), just enjoying by the beach maybe (lepak, i like!)? shopping overseas sounds like fun too! okay i need ideas here!
4) Start Saving Up, for whatever.
you know, i'm so good at advising people to save this, invest that, i don't do that myself! you know, saving for the future, marriage, child's education, retirement, etc. the best thing to do, earn more money!
i guess those are top priorities in my list right now in 2011. shall add them when they become more important. 360 days more to 2012!
this is going to be the first post of the year, and i'll begin with a greeting from singapore to the rest of the world! happy new year! loads of well wishes all over the internet, text messages, twitter, you name it. i guess everybody is excited?
so wherever you might be, just enjoy the first day, and begin each year with ample rest and loads of energy charged up for the new challenges this year might bring.
2010 went by so quickly for me. i'm sure for most of us, we're enjoying every single day we actually forget, time is actually ticking by every second. the first half of the year passed by pretty well for me. busy working with jammed packed activities, making good money. clocked one low-key in february, followed by incentive trip to bangkok in march. got to know my baby in april, and she spent may (my birthday) with me! then come june, we got together, then came the news that my boss got headhunted. we were part of the group and then the year came crashing down.
went for my first ever mandarine concert in july. jay chou! with chow meng and jian yong. $228 on the best seats, but not very comfortable seats afterall. enjoyed myself though. lots of memories growing up with his songs. off to phuket with the new group for planning. started work officially in august. september to november was kinda boring. all kinds of obstacles in work. managed to scrap through half of it. i wasn't happy working at all.
then came the final month. two week high key. blacked out on the first morning. report sick. sent to A&E. hospitalised for a day for observation. MC for the next three days. went back to camp for two days. come sunday, grandma passed on after a two month struggle with cancer. when she was diagnosed, she was already in the final stage. i guess she really put up with the pain for quite awhile. it was a tough five days afterward. went back to camp for another day to settle the other admin matters. CO decided to count it as low key. so two low keys in 2010.
got out of camp, fell sick. flu, sore throat, recovered. brother passed his rashes to me. was out for about five days or so. all the way till christmas. spent the rest of 2010 slacking and planning for the new year. nothing really special. nothing really great. i guess at 25, its good to start to think about the next five years. i mean, i have been doing that, but not putting any concrete actions yet.
by the way, anybody wants to study business or marketing together? have been wanted to do it, but haven't really found the passion to, i guess i might as well achieve something in 2011? that really sums up my entire year, boring much. anyway, you have read through all of it. well done.
enjoy the final few hours of the year, with the fireworks, and company of good friends, i hope, you find the courage to embrace the new year with hope, and lots of faith. till then, happy new year!
december whizzed by quickly, at least for me. this month has been pretty hectic though. nothing to do with work; technically i did not even work. it all started with a two week in camp training. peppered with some events within that period. i was first hospitalised for a day, which comprises of a three-day medical certificate, back to camp for two days.
come sunday, rushed to the hospital. grandma was in critical condition. she was in coma. for about two hours. doctors came and pronounced her dead. she was 85. at least she lived a ripe old age. i'm sure she enjoyed her final few moments with everyone around; not that she could see us, at least i think she felt our presence.
her hands were still warm when doctors pronounced her dead. it was after awhile before they told us to leave and then i never felt her warm hands again. then came the five-day wake, followed by the funeral. the procession was pretty normal for most people, but it felt special for me. its the last of my gramps funeral, and the last one i'm going to remember.
fast forward to the next week. technically, i was nursing some post-wake illness, followed up a week of rashes. i am not totally recovered from it, but i haven't had any rash for the past 24 hours, so i guess i'm okay? been constipated for the past few days now, maybe four or five, can't remember i only know i had tons of anti-histamine and vitamins over the past few days.
then came the christmas eve celebration. pasir ris park, barbeque. gift exchange. refreshing and nice. the weather was cold though. couldn't remember the last time i had a barbeque. probably back in the army days where we had lots of gathering, sometimes at seoul garden too? those were the fun days.
as we countdown the final few days to 2011, lets just wrap up the month with a good note. i have so many things to settle right now, and i realised i haven't been back to the office since the first week of december. thats really slack for me. i should be updating this blog again to wrap up 2010. for now, enjoy the last week!
this time i was hospitalised cause i blackout. not new if you knew me back in BMT. i have this fainting spells of late. not too sure if its the stress, the weather, my height, or whatever could be the problem. i feel so weak right now. maybe i just need to take more rests, breaks?
bottom line is, take care of your health while trying to make money. you'll never know when your time will come and you can't bring all those money to another world. for now, enjoy the rest of the december while i try to bring my health to its best, and serve the rest of the in camp training?
i think i'm easily motivated by books! so keep the discounts and vouchers flowing so i get cheap books all year long! time to sleep. long day ahead in 6 hours.
my grandma was recently sent to the hospital after complaining of stomach pains. you know these drills. doctors would send her for a checkup, then they'll find out things you didnt know exists. its really scary to be sent to the hospital. after a week, the diagnosis came out to be adeno-carcinogenic. that means she's tested positive to have cancer.
most of our relatives were devastated but i think my grandma still doesn't know anything. i began to visit her whenever i could. the doctors wanted us to discuss whether to operate on her, given her age (she's 85 btw). we tried to tell her that it was something like a lump, and had to be removed. she agreed.
then came a few days later, the doctors decided not to operate on her until a later date. and they discharged her as well. oh my, what are the doctors thinking? letting her go home or letting her live her days at home? its really puzzling and it's got my relatives thinking whether the doctor's decision was right after all. probably with their experience and knowledge of the situation, they'd be right.
lets just wait the other checkup during the mid-month and see what the doctors say. for now, pray for my grandma that she does enjoy her days and we'll continue to show her with love.
oh happy deepavali bloggers. i have to work on a public holiday.
