+happy new year!+

sashiburidanna! sorry for the lack of updates of late. some problems pertaining to the internet, or rather, the modem. i guess this problem keeps coming back, so be prepared for another week or two without any noise from this space!

the year of the dog was plagued with different kinds of events i think i would sum it up as a successful year after all. there is always things we never expect would happen, and who would have wished army was so interesting? hopefully the year of the pig would bring in new luck into everyone. cny was bored like the rest of the good old years. visiting has also been cut down due to the generations getting older. so they've decided to meet up at the folk's place and exchange all the ang baos there. this means if the house is not huge enough, you wont be able to fit everyone in nice and comfortable!

this year was crappy but it definitely was an eye-opener. we visited houses of three of my cousins, two in condominiums and one terrace house. i would say the generation im in would love to live a life of carefree, unstressful and preferably one which doesnt not involve the folks. well, well, i hope my turn to start building a home would not come so fast, because i have not yet enjoyed myself here.

+cleaning is the hippest thing to do this feb+

old stuff need to be thrown out of the window. new ones have to be brought in. this is what happens when the new year is around the corner. the company line was swept, wiped, mopped, scrubbed, repacked, and things got a new home suddenly. this is part of an annual tradition, which i guess applies to many places around singapore.

there was so much stand-by this past week it seemed like things were going back to the recruit days. first there was a bearing inspection due every first week of the month. this was part of a monthly clean-yourself-up ritual which the army enforces. shave, get yourself a clean cut, and rules were laid out once again to remind us of the usual regimentation we have to abide to. second we have the stand-by for the whole block. fortunately, things like this only happens to permanent staff like us twice a year. our cupboard need to be arranged into the standard positions, with every little thing inside having its own territory, just like 100 similar cabinets on the whole level. this is what national service is trains us to become, look exactly the same as everybody else.

its ironic, because i only see the NSF going through all the rules and regulations. the rest simply just feign ignorant. so helpless yet so funny at the same time just observing people. 8 more days to CNY. have fun doing housework people!

+rants about army - feb+

the past two weeks have been a struggle between us and superiors, a struggle between friends, a struggle between the different platoons. these different pains we go through, in the end, might very well, set the path for the rest of our term in army. they decided to issue the ultimatum, something only in army would be very effective. the first straw, nights out was taken out. the second, some very nice tekan session to teach the spoilt kids who's the boss.

these things dont usually happen to us. unless one of us has made some really outstanding actions. i guess this time it was more than one. after the beating, still, there are still a few who dont bother to learn. there is going to be more time for games at night, bonding, laughing, crying, sulking, bickering..

some of my platoon mates have been getting on my nerves lately. the little kiddish acts they do sometimes, may be too insensible for a 22 year old to be acting like one. i mean, there are times to fool around, but you must understand when to stop acting like a wussy. i cant rule out the fact that many of us have our childish moments, and these can be displayed in front of the bored and lifeless. we have our moody days too, so please dont show your little 3 year old acts at those times.

there's X. this guy i have resented since the combat medic days because his voice simply is very very irritating. maybe its his background or probably the way he was brought up was somewhat from another country where we usually dont associate with mature. im sure many in the platoon would feel the same way too.

there's Y. this one is a harder nut to crack because he uses his eloquent way of speech to shut the mouths of who comes into his way. i must say he has a certain degree of influence in the platoon, but sometimes, its really very annoying to those who dont agree with what he has to propose.

its just two very irksome personalities we have to deal with for another seven months. we need to find ways to curb these people soon.
