+change of command+

it begins as a boring week, doing what we are supposed to be trained for, as real medics. a continuation from what we have already did. cover medics as what we've learnt was not very difficult because we just had to sit there and watch over the soldiers do their thing. well well. guess what. we need to learn through mistakes. and as the experienced warrants who screwed our arses over the past week, i think im better prepared to do more covers in the future. being a combat medic does not mean sleeping through your entire cover, but watching the soldiers do every single thing, checking your stores even before you step out of your storeroom, and making sure every single thing is ticked on your checklist before you move out.

so much about being a medic for the past seven months, and providing cover. the change of command parade for our chief of medical corps, bg(dr) wong yue sie. maybe i haven seen a parade for quite some time since passing out from bmt back in dec 2005, or probably this is the first time i covered for such a huge event, suddenly i felt like i loved the marching contingents and military band doing their thing all over again. its especially heart-warming to watch, because i have been looking at this bunch of people start from stratch, and with so much practice over the week, improved so greatly. cmc sir had his final farewell speech, and it definitely meant alot to many. he was the man to set up the medical response force, the unit im in currently. we will remember you sir!

10 days off starting on saturday till 9th oct. what a long break its going to be after the imf. i think i should rest well and start training hard when i get back in camp after that. also a good time to catch up with old pals. friends, foe who wants an early appointment can contact me via msn :)

+standby+

it has been a breezing september so far. so much has happened yet it feels like it is the start of the month. because it feels like this month only has 20 days. i have not been home since the 10th sept because of imf standby. definitely feels like the first two weeks of bmt all over again.

on the biggest standby of the year, the international monetary fund/world bank group meeting 2006, one of the most proudest time you can feel as a singaporean. so many delegates gathering here for ten days, and the rarest time you see the authorities pouring in money decorating orchard road with colourful flowers.

as for me, i was busy running between camp and on site on alternate days. we met several high ranking officers on the job, and i guess its a good experience when different units come together and exchange different ideas on the big project. though its very taxing waking up at four in the morning doing stores, i think its all worth it because of the invaluable experience we get. which we dont get in many many batches. p.s. there isnt international meetings every single year in singapore you know. besides, when you're on ops, everything you do is not restricted. cuz you need ample amount of sleep. they dont come and ask you to do training every few hours. but you cant book out for as long as the ops is on. =(

i love ops. because we get to sit in tonners and parade the streets looking cool wearing black. ops only come a few months, and that means i only got a few more before ord. the stores standby everyday sucks thou. you know how the sarge start to pick out one thing and everyone has to standardise. and you get to sleep whenever you think you are tired. watch tele in the middle of the night. wake up super early for standby. its fun, but very tiring too.

+busy busy busy+

its good to be busy. at least you dont have to think about how much more national service has installed for you. i had a busy week. games, training, activities. i can hardly breathe.

friendly match with air force medics at our ground. we won 3-1. haha. didnt do much during my first half display except for a few comments on how similar my style of play is to peter crouch's. LOL. is that a compliment or what? he has been scoring on a regular basis and is on fire. well well, i love soccer all over again. the various leagues have already begun and here comes the late night saturday nights chilling out with a few friends over beer and nuts.

training for the IMF has certainly heated up. more and more training integrated with senarios and mass casualties have been practised. hopefully training does not need to be practiced during the 10 day of the meeting. =] next week's going to be more hard-core training im sure.

during the course of the week we had to do the SOP for different sections. i dont know why we were asked to do these, because it seemed all these were the seniors tasks. seniors ordering the juniors, and so on, the vicious cycle; we know it too well. fortunately, my keyboard skills seemed to work this time because i had managed to finish most of the typing for them within an hour. i feel so proud. wa ha ha.

one more weekend to payday. and september means its only down to 12 paydays away to ORD! after one year of training we finally crossed the halfway mark. it seems like yesterday we just enlisted, but so much has happened over the past year. its definitely very quickly passing by, but im sure the next year promises to be a very fulfilling one due to the ops and stuffs we are assigned to. and looking forward to every bookout, weekend, chilling out and my music!
